February 2018 update

The DEDC project was fully approved by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership Board on 30th January 2018. The Council has now awarded the contract to build the new link road and associated junction improvements to Bamber Bridge based Eric Wright Civil Engineering Limited.

The site compound will be set up from 12th February 2018 on Baileys Field and construction on the new highway link will start later in the month, working from Marsh House Lane towards Ivinson Road. At the same time, works to improve the Sough Road / Grimshaw Street junction to a compact roundabout will also start. DEDC works are programmed to complete in early 2019.

December 2017 update

Under Sections 122(1) and 122(2A) of the Local Government Act 1972, the Council is appropriating various parcels of land for highways purposes which are currently classified as informal open space, informal amenity space or informal ancillary land.

The areas of land and accompanying plans for all junction improvements on the DEDC can be downloaded and viewed below.

Any comments on the proposals can be made in writing to the Council no later than 22nd December 2017.

September 2017 update

The Council will be undertaking some minor accommodation works to Baileys Field in October 2017 to prepare for the road’s construction, which is due to start in February 2018. Existing informal ponds will be filled and shrub and low amenity trees will be removed. Works will be carried out by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Direct Labour Organisation.

Darwen East development corridor (DEDC) - May 2017 update

The planning application for the Darwen East Development Corridor has now been submitted to the Council, and can be viewed via the planning portal.

The Planning Application reference number for the scheme is 10/17/0638.

A statutory period of consultation will follow and will inform the determination of the application, which is programmed for the Summer of 2017.

Darwen East development corridor (DEDC) - March 2017 update

51 responses were received from residents for the consultation exercise held on the 22nd and 23rd November 2016 at Darwen Academy and the Craven Heifer public house.

Over 160 people attended to speak to representatives from the Council and developers regarding the highways and housing developments.

A planning application is now in preparation to progress the highways scheme, with the target for submission May 2017. Questions asked by members of the public and the responses given by the Council can be viewed here.

A map has also been produced which provides more detail on the proposed highway improvements and housing land allocations.
