Petroleum licensing

Service information

The Council regulates petrol stations in the Borough.

We regularly carry out inspection visits to make sure the stations are so far as is reasonably practicable safe and without hazards and that the business owners are operating within the law.

You need a licence from your local petroleum licensing authority if

  • You run a business where petrol is stored for dispensing directly into the fuel tank of an internal combustion engine
  • or if you store large amounts of petrol for private use
