Pleasington Crematorium: Mercury abatement project.
The Government has passed legislation requiring all of the UK's crematoria to reduce emissions of mercury to the atmosphere by 50%; Mercury is a very poisonous heavy metal and crematoria emit 13% of mercury emissions nationally. As a result equipment at Pleasington will be replaced over the next few months. The works will include an extension of the existing crematorium to accommodate the new equipment.
During the construction there will be slight changes in operating times at the Crematorium. Updates will be posted here regularly.
The works are programmed to start on the 29th October and are expected to be completed in May 2013.
As with the Cemetery extension, disruption will be kept to a minimum but again access for construction traffic to the works will be through the cemetery.
