Data

What we mean by data in this context is ‘hard’ data (sometime called ‘quantitative data’, i.e. facts and figures about needs in Blackburn with Darwen). JSNA relies on good quality data, and we will update this page with new data links as they come available.

Some of this information is taken from local sources (e.g. from the Council’s Policy Department, or the PCT), but much of it is regional and national. By adopting a web-based approach, with ‘hyperlinks’, we are able to access live data in websites regularly updated by other bodies, e.g. the Department of Health, the Office for National Statistics, etc. These links are explained below.

Core dataset:   Our core dataset covers the range of data recommended in national JSNA guidance as the basis for local JSNAs. The core dataset contains a wide range of live hyperlinks, and enables you to compare local information (e.g. about demographic changes, about health) with other areas.

Secondary data: We have supplemented our core dataset with additional, locally relevant information, to add depth and insight into the needs of our population. Data and secondary analysis on lifestyle and disability are hosted on the NHS Blackburn with Darwen website.

The secondary data sources, to date, are listed below.
