From Wednesday April 1, people aged 25 to 49 from Blackburn with Darwen can join the rest of the 16 pluses in enjoying a wide range of free sports if they sign up for a free beeZ card.
And Dr Hilary Jones will be at a conference in King George’s Hall, Blackburn during the afternoon of April 1 to help celebrate this third and final phase of the Council and NHS Blackburn with Darwen £6m re:fresh campaign.
The scheme, costing £6m over the next three years, is an innovative plan to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Blackburn with Darwen after the Council and NHS revealed ‘killer facts’ about the borough’s poor health early last year.
Now, anyone aged 16 or over, who lives, works, or studies, or whose GP practice is in Blackburn or Darwen will now be offered the chance to take up free activities, such as swimming, aerobics and spinning. Families were also offered free weekend activities and early indications show the move has proved very popular.
“re:fresh is now one-year-old and we are seeing a steady increase in the use of free leisure with our centres being busier than ever. The message coming back to us is that the people of Blackburn with Darwen are loving re:fresh.” said Councillor Michael Law-Riding, executive member for culture and leisure.
