Cemeteries and crematorium

Facilities managed and maintained by Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council include:

Cemeteries

The amenities section is responsible for both the physical and legal aspects of the burial procedure, including grave digging, grounds maintenance and keeping of the burial registers

New graves are available for purchase at:

  • Pleasington cemetery
  • Darwen eastern cemetery

Burials can be arranged in the other cemeteries if you already own the burial rights for a family grave.

Woodland burial

There is a woodland section at Pleasington cemetery for those who would prefer a natural burial. Coffins must be environmentally friendly and the body must not be embalmed. Graves are arranged in circles of six, with a tree as the centrepiece. Memorials are not permitted on this section

Headstones

When choosing a memorial, you may engage the services of the memorial mason of your choice, provided the business is a member of the British Register of Accredited Memorial masons, with licensed fixers.

Crematorium
