From material covered police cars to dancing carrier bags, Asian artists taking part in a new exhibition will be proving it's a strange world.
Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery's latest exhibition Strange World, is the culmination of a two year programme called plAAy that aims to showcase contemporary Asian Art in the borough through both residencies and exhibitions.
This final show brings together seven international and UK based artists, some exhibiting their work for the first time in the UK.
They aim to explore a range of global issues ranging from the representation of women, to our thirst for gas and oil in all sorts of surreal ways.
And whether it's Malaysian artist Vincent Leong's whimsical dancing carrier bags or American artist Bovey Lee's paper cutouts rooted in Chinese folk art traditions, the art works all have their fun and playful sides.
A particular highlight will be Japanese artist Okamoto Mitsuhiro's creation Masked Police Car.
Okamoto is interested in exploring the difference between what we see and are shown and how ordinary cars can be imbued with authority through symbols.
His material covered cars have been playfully likened to wrestler's masks.
Strange World runs from Saturday, September 5 until Saturday, November 21.
Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, opening times are Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 4.45pm.
