Two Blackburn housing developments have been commended for their crime-busting credentials.
Twin Valley Homes, the largest social housing provider in Blackburn with Darwen, has been awarded the prestigious Secure By Design certificate for achieving required security standards for developments on both Livesey Green and North Road.
The new eco-friendly housing development on Livesey Green has been commended for providing safe and secure accommodation for families and the over 55s.
The development, formerly occupied by maisonettes, now consists of 31 new build homes including 24 houses and 7 bungalows, of which one is specifically built for a disabled tenant.
Chief Inspector Peter Lawson said: "This will undoubtedly help achieve a better quality of life for local residents in terms of preventing crime and making people feel safer.”
Councillor Simon Huggill, executive member for housing for Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council said: “We are now expecting developers to achieve the Secured by Design standard. Within the current challenging world of house building, I am pleased that the key objective of working together for safer neighbourhoods has been successful here."
Twin Valley Homes’ Executive Director Kevin Ruth said: “All of our new build properties are designed with security, as well as energy efficiency as top priorities.”
The scheme provides high quality, safe and secure accommodation, built to a police recognised national standard, in partnership with building contractors Bramall Construction.
