Recycling

Refuse - household waste

  Burgundy bin (small)  Household waste collection days, advice on where to leave your bin, large household items/bulky
waste service and skips available to hire.

Household waste recycling centres

HWRC Darwen  Find your nearest household waste recycling centre (the 'tip') and recycling bank site along with opening hours for these sites.

Environmental health

Smoke control image  The aim of the environmental health service is to improve the quality of life for all the people of the borough by identifying and developing sustainable improvements to their environments, targeting inequalities and improving the standards of health in the borough.

Parks and open spaces

Grass area  The council manages and maintains a wide variety of ‘green’ landscapes within Blackburn and Darwen. Many of which compliment the built urban environment and form part of the neighbourhood. Recreational activities are provided within these green spaces through sports facilities, visitor centres, guided walks, environmental education and outdoor events.  Pro-active community involvement is encouraged through park supporters groups and neighbourhood groups.

Pollution

Smokey vehicles  The Pollution Control team is responsible for dealing with a range of pollution and environmental protection issues which impact on health. These include noise nuisance, regulating certain industrial processes, tackling air pollution problems, and commenting on planning applications to try to avoid pollution problems in the future.
