We are a pace-setting, innovative and high-achieving council with many accolades to our name.

I became Chief Executive in October 2006 and have already put into place a new senior management structure.

The Council is now entering a new stage in our development – we want to make the transition from excellence to exceptional – can you help?

The Council was only created in 1998 but by 2002 our efforts were rewarded when we were named Council of the Year. The Audit Commission has graded us “excellent” or “four stars” four times running.

It has been a steep curve but we have learned many lessons along the way as we have tried – and succeeded – to make sense of modern local government.
