Transport services

Transport services is responsible for the provision of local bus services that are not provided commercially by bus operators but that are considered to be socially necessary.  In the year 2009/10 the Council will spend in the region of £600,000 on socially necessary bus services. Services provided in this way are constantly monitored to ensure that the borough receives best value for money on its public transport expenditure.

Your local bus services

Most of the bus services in Blackburn with Darwen are operated by independent commercial companies, many of which are locally based, and some are part of larger companies.

Bus companies are free to decide how they will run any services which do not require financial support, this includes the route, stops, timetables and fares.  If you have a query or complaint regarding these services you should contact the relevant bus operator.

Supported bus services

Some services are subsidised and operated under contract with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. For these services the Council sets the route, stops and timetables and monitors the performance of each service.  If you have a query or complaint you should contact us.

In addition we provide a range of timetable leaflets giving full details of all bus services whether provided commercially or otherwise and these are available from a variety of outlets in the borough. Public transport information is available from:
