Eat Well, Shape Up, Move More Strategy 2016-19

A three-year strategy is being developed for Blackburn with Darwen to encourage residents to move more, eat well and maintain a healthy weight.

The Eat Well, Shape Up, Move More Strategy 2016-19 aims to encourage positive lifestyle changes that enable local people to improve their health and wellbeing by supporting an environment where physical activity and healthy eating is the easy choice for everyone throughout their lives.

The strategy is now out for public consultation. Have your say here.

An action plan for the strategy is also available.

Responsibility for public health transferred from the NHS to the Council on April 1, 2013, under government reforms.

The role of public health is to improve the health of local residents, prevent risks to public health and reduce health inequalities to help people live longer, healthier lives.

Public health is responsible for the delivery of a wide range of services including stop smoking, alcohol and drug misuse services, public health services for children and young people aged five to 19, the national Child Measurement Programme, weight management, NHS Health Checks, accidental injury prevention, dealing with health protection incidents and sexual health services.

Public health coordinates the integrated strategic needs assessment for the Health and wellbeing board and the CCG.
