Coronavirus: important information

Birth registrations

You can now register your baby’s birth where it is safe to do so but this must still take place in person by law.

Blackburn with Darwen Register Office have put provisions in place and will be undertaking birth registrations at the Register Office, Town Hall, King William Street, Blackburn.

To book an appointment please email your name, place of child(ren)’s birth and date of child(ren)’s birth to registration.officers@blackburn.gov.uk and a registrar will be in contact with you to make an appointment.

Please note that currently we are only able to offer appointments for babies born within the borough of Blackburn with Darwen if your child was born elsewhere please contact the register office for that district.

Face coverings

These are no longer required by law in any setting, but the Government expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas. Our staff will, therefore, continue to wear face coverings in communal areas and we would encourage our customers to do the same unless you have an exemption from wearing one.

Social Distancing

This also no longer applies, and you do not need to stay 2 metres apart from people you do not live with. However, in order to keep our staff and customers safe the Registrars will maintain a minimum of one-metre distance from our customers.

NHS Test and Trace

If you have been instructed by NHS Test and Trace to self-isolate (because you have tested positive for COVID 19 or you are a close contact of someone who has) you must not attend your appointment, please contact the registrars on registration.officers@blackburn.gov.uk to rearrange your booking.

Claiming child benefit

The government has updated their guidance on claiming Child Benefit.
