Dangerous buildings

Information on how to report a dangerous building.

The Council respond to all reports of dangerous buildings, walls and structures within the areas of Blackburn with Darwen and Burnley Borough, on a 24 hour, 365 day a year basis.

Dangerous buildings or structures can be caused by things such as a general decay or collapse, fire, an accident involving a vehicle(s) or a gas explosion.

Dangerous buildings are controlled by the Council under sections 77 and 78 of the Building Act 1984.

How to report a dangerous building

If you believe a building or structure poses an immediate risk to public safety, you can contact us.

  • house or building number
  • street name
  • town
  • nature of problem
  • your contact name and telephone number (this will be kept confidential)
