Programmes available at children's centres

Many of the children's centres provide free of charge programmes related to parenting, school readiness and SEND support. Applications are available online, once submitted you will be contacted by the team.

Parenting programmes:

IY Baby

An 8 week programme to enhance parenting skills and promote optimal social, emotional, physical and academic development for babies aged between 0 to 12 months old.

Please note, the programme is run with both, the parent and baby(ies)

HENRY

HENRY Healthy Families programme is an 8 week intervention, which offers parents the chance to share ideas, gain new skills and tools to address lifestyle issues, in a supportive and fun environment. It is aimed for children aged between 0 to 5 years old.

Please note, the programme is run with parents only, in a group environment with other parents.

Healthy Families

This programme is a holistic 10 week lifestyle programme, to support healthy weight for children aged between 5 to 11 years old.

Please note, the programme is run with parents only, in a group environment with other parents.

Healthy Relationships

A 7 week course to support and guide parents on effective communication, problem solving, understanding conflict and co-parenting.

Please note, this programme would not be suitable for parents whereby there has been recent or active issues, related to domestic abuse.

School readiness programmes:

Let's Look and Listen

Look and Listen is a group programme, for parents and children aged between 18 months to 3 years old, who are at a pre-verbal stage of their development and not yet demonstrating any signs of 'communicative intent' i.e. eye gaze, vocalisations, pointing and gestures.

Please note, the programme is run with both, the parent and child(ren).

Chatter Chums

A 6 week language programme available for children aged between 18 months to 3 years old. It is an opportunity to encourage and develop children's listening, speaking and language skills.

Please note, this is a parent-child interaction group with other families. Each week parents will be taught a strategy to practice at home and provide feedback at the next session.

Free education for 2,3 and 4 year olds

Free education is available for some children aged 2 years old and for all 3 and 4 year olds. Further information can be found on the Childcare Choices website.

SEND support programmes:

Portage Group

A targeted group for children aged between 0 to 3 years old, with a significant delay in two or more areas of their development. Parents are empowered to help support their child(ren) to develop pre-communication skills through play.

Please note, the group uses a small steps approach and follows an individualised programme. Attendance is through invite only, following a Portage triage session.

Little Treasures

A multi-agency, targeted group delivered by Portage, the SEND Support Service and Physiotherapists. The group is for children aged between 0 to 3 years old, who have a neurological disorder, diagnosis or developmental delay that significantly affects their physical development.

Please note, attendance is through invite only from the child's Physiotherapist or Health Visitor. Children can attend this group until they access their funded nursery provision.
