Getting involved

We are keen to ensure that service delivery continues to meet the needs of our families, and parental/ carer involvement is critical. There are a number of ways you can get involved and have your say:

Parent Forum (BwD PIP)

The Blackburn with Darwen Parent/Carer Forum is led by local group Parents In Partnership (PIP). It is the responsibility of the group to organise forum meetings and information based events and consultation. The PIP steering group are a group of parents who are themselves parents/carers of children and young people with SEN and/or disabilities. They work on a voluntary basis to provide support and signpost other carers to relevant organisations and services. We are “your voice” The local authority will continue to work in co-production with the forum and together we will shape service development and address issues in the borough.

Friends of the Local Offer Group

The Friends of the Local Offer is a small, friendly group of parents/carers of children and young people with SEND.

The group meets once a month, on a Monday or Friday morning from 10:00 to 12 noon, to find ways to help families to help themselves, by recommending improvements to information, guidance and the services available to families locally.

Meetings are fun and informative, and always include coffee, tea and cake, but most importantly they are making a real difference.

Below are just some of the things the group has achieved so far:

  • Made lots of improvements to Blackburn with Darwen’s Local Offer website
  • Changed information and guidance to make it much more family friendly
  • Provided advice to professionals on sharing information
  • Helped to develop and review important strategies for the borough
