Pay Council Tax by Direct Debit

Choose to pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit

We recommend that you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit because it is the simplest and easiest way.

Setting up a Direct allows you to:

  • choose from four dates each month of when you can pay - 5th, 15th, 23rd or last day of the month
  • extend your payments over 12 months instead of the usual 10
  • pay us automatically, avoiding reminders

If you pay by cash, you can pay on the 1st or the 15th of the month and can request that your instalments are spread over 12 months (if requested before 15th April) or spread over the remaining number of months available.

How to set up a Direct Debit

To set up a Direct Debit, complete a Council Tax Direct Debit form.

Set up a direct debit

You will need your Council Tax account reference number (as shown on your Council Tax bill or e-bill notification email) and bank account details.

The bank account details you supply must be for an account which allows Direct Debits.

Change the date of your Direct Debit

If you wish to change the date of your Direct Debit, complete the general enquiry form and provide your preferred payment date. Please be aware that depending on when in the month you contact us, we may have already requested a payment from your bank.

Change your bank details

To change the bank details on your existing Direct Debit, complete the Council Tax Direct Debit form with your new bank account information.

Change a direct debit

If you wish to simply change the date of your Direct Debit, contact us. If you are emailing us with your change of date then include your name, account number and preferred date.

If you've already set up a Direct Debit

If you currently pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit, you do not need to tell us each year. We will continue to take Debit Debits until you tell us otherwise.
