Support for schools

The library service schools’ offer contributes to the achievement of national curriculum outcomes.

For school pupils, we can offer free visits to the library for wider reading or subject themed sessions. We can also demonstrate our IT and other electronic resources for all ages, and arrange an introduction to our local history section for key stage two and above. Elements of our programmes can also be delivered in the classroom. Please get in touch as early as possible for the widest choice of dates, as our calendar can get quite full nearer the time you want to visit.

Teachers also have free access from the classroom to our full range of eBook, eAudio and eMagazine titles which can be accessed from the ‘virtual library’ section of the website, or by downloading the relevant app (BorrowBox for eBooks and eAudio, uLIBRARY for additional eAudio, Libby for eMagazines).

We can provide professional advice with respect to the development and maintenance of the school library. There is a small cost to schools for accessing this service.

We can support you with:

  • library planning, development and promotion
  • stock revision
  • new stock selection
  • stock management – cataloguing and classification
  • library management skills and staff / pupil training.
