Extra and larger bins

Any household can request to have a larger 240l refuse (burgundy) bin, if you meet the following criteria:

  • are recycling all recyclable waste
  • have four or more permanent occupants residing at the property

If you currently have a 140l refuse (burgundy) bin, this will be exchanged for the larger refuse (burgundy) bin.

There is a £10 non-refundable administration charge when applying for a larger 240l refuse (burgundy) bin. Bins provided are refurbished and are stored outside so may look weathered.

Families who are struggling with excess waste normally finds this is solved with an extra recycling bin. A household can have as many recycling (grey or blue) bins as required and these are free of charge.

If you have a larger refuse (burgundy) bin, are recycling all you can but still struggling to manage your waste, you can apply for an additional 140l refuse (burgundy) bin.

Additional refuse (burgundy) bins can be requested by any household but will only be granted following a visit your property, to conduct a stringent waste audit. This is to make sure you are doing everything you can to manage your waste.

Additional refuse bins are identified by a red lid so the crew know that these bins are authorised to be emptied.
