Temporary Event Notice (TEN)

Guidance on when you may need a Temporary Event Notice

You will need a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) if you want to carry out a ‘licensable activity that is not already authorised under a premises licence or club premises’.

Licensable activity includes:

  • Retail sale of alcohol
  • Supply of alcohol to members of a private club
  • providing regulated entertainment, such as music, dancing or indoor sporting events
  • serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am

The process of applying is formally known as ‘giving’ a Temporary Event Notice.

You’ll also need a TEN if a particular licensable activity is not included in the terms of your existing licence, for example holding a wedding reception at a community centre.

A standard Temporary Event Notice must be submitted 10 working days before the planned event not including the date given or the day of the event. A Late Temporary Event Notice must be submitted 5 working days before the planned event not including the date given or the day of the event.

Temporary Event Notices can be applied for by using the link below. The link will take you to gov.uk where an application form can be obtained and submitted. A payment of £21 can be made whilst submitting your application.
